General
Are Finapres devices compliant with MRI?
Current Finapres devices cannot be used in a MRI. The front end unit incorporates electromagnetic control valves. The valves might be affected by the strong magnetic fields in MRI devices. This will cause unreliable readings.

Can Modelflow® be used in lower ages?
This caution statement has been introduced since Modelflow® CO has been checked and published against independent other methods (thermodilution, Fick, rebreathing) in subjects over 18 years of age. It may be correct for lower ages, but there is no independent proof as yet. Modelflow® CO might be correct in paediatric patients as well, but we do not know until clinical studies have been done and published on the use of Modelflow® in lower age ranges.

What is the main differences between the Finometer® MIDI and Finometer® PRO?
The main difference is the patented RTF (Return To Flow) calibration incorporated in the Finometer® PRO. The RTF offers a higher accuracy for absolute blood pressure values. When trends are more important than absolute values the Finometer® MIDI is an outstanding choice.

What cuff sizes do you offer?
We currently offer 3 sizes cuffs; Small (Ø 45-55 mm), Medium (Ø 55-65 mm) and Large (Ø 65-75 mm). Please click here to forward a “Request for quote”.

How long is it possible to monitor continuously without interruption for its calibration purposes?
We always advise our customers to wait with monitoring arterial blood pressure continuously until the Physiocal calibration has reached its maximum step of 70 (which takes about 4 minutes). At this point you can switch off the Physiocal steps temporary during your measurements so there will be no interruptions for calibration.

However, please ensure that after your “slow waves” measurements the physical will be switch on again, to ensure that the blood pressure is still accurate after the period the Physiocal calibration was switched off.

When do I need to null (calibrate) my HCU (Height Correction Unit). How should I do that?
Hold both sensors of the HCU (transducer and reference) at the same level. If the reading is not 00 the HCU nulling procedure should be performed. Please refer to the User’s Guide for more information and about the procedure.

I can disable the “Physiocal” function. What is the influence on the measurements?
Physiocal compensates offsets due to arterial contractions/relaxations related to smooth muscle activity in the finger arteries. Switching Physiocal off has a potential effect on the setpoint (= absolute blood pressure level).

In general Physiocal can be switched off when the number of beats in between successive Physiocal interval is at its maximum step of 70, indicating that the finger physiology is stable. Usually it should not be a problem to switch Physiocal off for a period of 5 to 15 min. even when the patient is recovering from an exercise test.

Which Finapres® device is more accurate for arterial blood pressure measurement and continuous monitoring?
Our Finometer® PRO is the most accurate of our devices (most accurate device available on the market). Only the Finometer® Pro has the added feature of the patented RTF (return-to-flow) calibration which adds a level of accuracy and precision.

Portapres®
There is a difference between the cuff 1 and cuff 2. How is this possible?
The difference in measurements C1/C2 are most likely caused by the difference in finger arterial physiology. Sometimes finger pressure arterial properties are different resulting in different absolute blood pressure readings. Test: Set finger switching on 15 minutes, switch only the electrical and air-connector of the cuff from C1 to C2 of the Frontend Unit (the cuff is still connected to the same finger). These readings should be similar.

The RT clock failed. What could be the problem?
Please check if the system date and time are correct and running. The internal battery might have low voltage and must be replaced. Please contact our customer service at info@finapres.com for more information and support.

Can the Portapres® be used during exercise?
The Portapres® can be used during running and cycling. However, to ensure that the measurements are correct during exercise it is very important that the hand with the finger cuffs is kept as still as possible (this could be done by using a sling).

Finometer® PRO
I would like to perform a tilt table test. Are there any recommendations?
Make sure all cables including the HCU (Height Correction Unit) tube are fixed. Make sure the signal state is LOG. Recommended is to start after Physiocal has reached 70.

I need to null (calibrate) my HCU (Height Correction Unit). How should I do that?
Hold both sensors of the HCU (transducer and reference) at the same level. If the reading is not 00 the HCU nulling procedure should be performed. Please refer to the User’s Guide for more information.

Analog signals seem to be delayed. How is this possible?
Raw signals are filtered and processed. Analog signals are processed and filtered signals and come in 3 colors. The delay is as follows: Brown (delay = 0 sec), Green (delay = 1 sec) and Blue (delay = 1 sec + 1 beat). Please refer to your User’s Guide for more information.

Analog signals come in 3 colors. What are the colors representing?
Analog signals have the following representation:
Color brown:
(delay=0sec):extern, finger, height, armcuf, calibr, marker

Color green:
(delay=1sec):FinAP, reBAP, mFLOW

Color blue:
(delay=1sec+1beat):SYS, DIA, MAP, IBI, HR, LVET, SV, CO, TPR, Zao, Cwk, SVI, CI, PRI, PS*HR, dp/dt

The values displayed on the Finometer® screen and available on the I/O box have the same delay, but the signals you see on the Finometer® screen are the mean of 8 blood pressure measurements!

I am receiving the error message “unacceptable pleth”. What does this mean and what should I do?
This error message occurs when the values of the plethysmogram are out of acceptable range. The most common reasons are significant movement artifact or cold hands. Check also the state of the signal, ideal is LOG. Change the cuff (size) or use another finger and try again. If the error persists please contact our customer service at info@finapres.com.

I am receiving the error message “check air supply”. What does this mean and what should I do?
This error indicates that there is something wrong with the air supply. It is a start up error. Please make sure that the cuff is connected and the hose is not obstructed or kinked. If the error persists please change the cuff with another cuff and try again. If the problem is solved the cuff needs to be replaced.

I am receiving the error message “connect cuff cable”. What does this mean and what should I do?
This error indicates that the cuff is not correctly connected to your device. The following procedure can be followed to solve this issue:
1. Please disconnect and reconnect the cuff and try again 2. Change the cuff with another cuff. If the problem is solved your cuff needs to be replaced. 3. If the problem persists please try another front end or contact our customer service at info@finapres.com.

Finometer® MIDI
I would like to perform a tilt table test. Are there any recommendations?
Make sure all cables including the HCU (Height Correction Unit) tube are fixed. Make sure the signal state is LOG. Recommended is to start after Physiocal has reached 70.

How do I connect the ECG?
Finometer® MIDI has a direct ECG input connector at the front of the device. The power voltage is supplied by the Finometer® MIDI.

I am receiving semaphore errors what could be the problem?
A semaphore error can be caused by the RS232 to USB converter. Click here to forward your “request for quote” for a compliant converter. If the error persists please contact our customer service at info@finapres.com.

BeatScope® Software
I have problems installing BeatScope® software. What could be the cause?
The most common cause is that the computer is logged on (Windows®2000 and Windows® XT) without “Administrator Rights”. Please make sure you have “Administrator Rights” before installing BeatScope®.

I am using BeatScope® 1.0. When should I upgrade to BeatScope® 1.1a?
BeatScope® 1.0 is no longer supported. An upgrade to BeatScope® 1.1a is recommended. BeatScope® 1.1a does offer a range of additional features an improvements. Please contact our sales department for an offer.

What is Readpack?
Readpack is a software program that decompresses FM packet files. It generates 4 files: Samples file(s or .adc), Beat data file(r or .res), Header file(h or .hdr) and Text data file(a or .asc).

The Beatport does respond slow. What could be the problem and what should I do?
Please change the idle settings to high in Beatport.exe. You can find “idle setting” under: Properties/Misc/Idle sensitivity
